Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa, the Honourable Attorney General
Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa was appointed as the Honourable Attorney General by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 6th October 2020. Prior to assuming the post of the Attorney General, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad, was the Managing Partner of the law firm of Messrs Ahmad Isa & Partners. He obtained his B.A. (Hons) in Law from the University of Kent at Canterbury in June 1985.
Following his completion of the Certificate of Legal Practice at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia in 1986, he was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam in 1987. Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad was appointed as a Commissioner of Oaths in 1994.
Between 1985 and 1990, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad worked at the Attorney General’s Chambers holding the posts of Counsel/Deputy Public Prosecutor, Deputy Registrar of Trade Marks, Deputy Registrar of Companies, and Deputy Registrar of Business Names. From 1986 to October 1990, in addition to his duties at the Attorney General’s Chambers, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad was seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On leaving government service, in November 1990, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad became a partner in Douglas Lind Ahmad Isa & Co. In January 1992, Douglas Lind Ahmad Isa & Co merged with another law firm, Ibrahim Chee & Co to form Ahmad Isa Lee & Lind. Ahmad Isa Lee & Lind changed its name to Ahmad Isa & Partners in November 1997.
