Dr Teuku Mohammed Radhie
Mr. Teuku Mohammad Radhie served as the Interim Secretary-General of the 1980
Governing Council and the first ALA Secretary-General from 1980-1986.
Dr. Teuku Mohammad Radhie is instrumental in the formation of the Asean Law
Association. As Director of the National Centre for Law and Development (BPHN), he visited
the other Asean countries upon instructions of then Justice Minister Prof. Mochtar Kusumaatmadja.
Motivated by the idea that lawyers have an important role to play in promoting regional peace
and stability through abiding respect for justice and rule of law in the relationships among ASEAN,
he coordinated conference on “Legal Development in the Asean Countries” in Jakarta, Indonesia
on February 5-10, 1979. As Secretary-General, he was responsible for the ALA Library at Jakarta,
the ALA Newsletter during his term and in the inclusion of ALA in the Yearbook of International
Organizations, 1986-1989, as well as the accreditation of ALA as a non-governmental organization
with the ASEAN. He was elected Chairman of the Second Asean Senior Legal Officials Meeting
held in Jakarta from September 26-28, 1985.
Dr. Radhie passed away peacefully in Jakarta on March 11, 1992. |
