Penang Golf Resort
1 August 2008
In conjunction with the 29th ALA Governing Council Meeting held at Penang from 31 July 2008 to 3 August 2008, ALA Malaysia hosted an Invitational Golf Tournament on 1 August 2008 at Penang Golf Resort, Bertam, Penang. Penang Golf Resort is a 36-hole resort course situated about 30 minutes from the Penang Bridge, and the tournament proper was played at the West Course, a friendly buggy course.
A total of 72 golfers comprising local ALA members, invited guests and overseas ALA members participated in the tournament. The mode of play was system 36 stableford with three categories, namely, Ladies, Open (below 55 years) and Senior (above 55 years). Teeing off from the blue tee proved to be challenging for some of the golfers, but complete the 18 holes with gusto they did, in true ALA sprit.
A sumptuous lunch followed at the clubhouse, together with the prize presentation emceed by Dato' Zuraida Atan. During lunch, the Annual General Meeting of the ALA Golf Chapter was held wherein the incumbent Chairman/Captain Justice Dato' James Foong announced his retirement and the retirement of Secretary-General of the Golf Chapter Mr Salvador Medialdea. In the same breath, Justice Foong announced the nomination of Mr Charles Lim Aeng Cheng as the new Chairman/Captain of the ALA Golf Chapter and Mr Low Siew Joon as the new Secretary-General. Both Mr Charles Lim and Mr Low Siew Joon were unanimously elected to their respective positions. Kudos to the retiring Chairman and welcome to the new Chairman.
