4 March 2011
The 8th ALA Championship Golf Tournament 2011 for the coveted Tun Dzaiddin Challenge Trophy was held at Burapha Golf Club in Pattaya, Thailand on 4th March 2011 together with the 33rd Governing Council & Standing Committee Meeting of the ASEAN Law Association.
The 8.00am shot-gun tee-off was slightly delayed by the early morning shower. That did not dampen the spirit of the almost 100 golfers representing the host country and the 86 golfers from other member countries returning with good scores.
The tournament was followed by a sumptuous lunch at the golf club and the election of the new golf captain and the secretary-general of the ALA Golf Chapter. Justice Datuk Bentara Luar Dato' Hashim bin Dato' Haji Yusoff and Mr. K. Puspalingam both from ALA Malaysia were unanimously elected as the Captain and Secretary-General respectively of the Golf Chapter.
The newly elected Captain in his acceptance speech thanked the immediate past Captain Mr Charles Lim and Secretary-General Mr Low Siew Joon both from ALA Singapore for a job well done.
The prize presentation for the golf tournament was held during the welcome reception at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel on the same day.
The Tun Dzaiddin Challenge Trophy was won by ALA Thailand with 188 stableford points. ALA Malaysia was a distant second with 184 points and ALA Indonesia a close third with 183 points.
Bapak Bambang Satyadi an 8-handicapper from ALA Indonesia returned with the best gross score of 77 on count back thus winning the gross champion trophy for the second year running.
On behalf of the golfing fraternity of ALA, heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Judge Montri Sillapamahabundit of ALA Thailand and the members of his organising committee for a splendid and wonderful golf tournament.
