Nirwana Golf & Country Club
15 February 2012
The 9th ALA Championship Golf Tournament was held in the morning of 15 February 2012 at the picturesque Nirwana Golf & Country Club at Tanah Lot, Bali, Indonesia.
Named one of the best golf courses in Asia, the course designed by the legendary Greg Norman is indeed a visual masterpiece of dramatic ocean views and lush Balinese landscapes. The course features five dramatic cliff to cliff ocean holes carved into the coastline hugging the Indian Ocean, with the iconic sunset island temple of Tanah Lot as the back drop for the signature Par 3 seventh hole.
For the ALA golfers, especially those playing for the first time at the course, it was indeed a truly exhilarating golfing experience.
The golfers arrived early at the Club in large numbers causing a "macet" (local word for traffic jam) at the golf bag unloading bay, registration counter and the flight arrangement board. After collecting the goodie bag and having enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast, all the 153 golfers proceeded to their respective golf carts and made their way to the respective tee-boxes.
The shot-gun siren blasted at 7.15am sharp and the tournament commenced in earnest.
Despite the heat and lengthy delays at some of the challenging par-3s, none of the players complained since the ocean waves, the famous Tanah Lot Pura (temple) and the stunning views all around the coast line kept the golfers busy posing for photos and having small chats with the charming and knowledgeable caddies.
The game ended at about 1.00pm and was followed by a generous lunch of local cuisine where songs by local beauties kept the golfers entertained throughout.
The prize presentation was held during the welcome reception at the Temple by the Sea at the Westin, Nusa Dua. The following were some of the notable winners:
